When to Go to Lake Powell
Temperatures in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area are in the 80’s and 90’s from May to September, making these the most pleasant times to visit and make the most of the opportunities for water play. To avoid both the extreme heat and crowds, an optimal time to go is either early June or mid-September.

Things to Do on Lake Powell
The most popular activity on the lake is boating. Either bringing or renting a speedboat is essential for exploring the extensive network of canyons slinking off from the main channel. Each has its own character, with an array of rock formations carved by millions of years of wind and water on sandstone. The canyon waters also make wonderful areas for canoeing and kayaking.
Fishing is another pleasant way to pass the time on Lake Powell. The lake contains plenty of bass, striper, walleye catfish and more. Fishing licenses are available at the marinas.
Amateur and professional photographers alike will enjoy the rugged, windswept scenery and the contrasts of rock, sky and water. Hikers can make their own trails or follow already established ones, through cedar lined canyons amidst lizards and toads.
For all of these activities and more, it’s crucial to bring plenty of sunscreen and drinking water. The elements of Lake Powell are stunning and bring a change of perspective to anyone who visits.
