The area of Heber Valley, Utah, has undergone remarkable growth during the past 10 years. One of the results is a number of places offering a great dining experience.
Heber Valley is located just 10-15 minutes from Park City, and can be reached from Salt Lake City in under an hour, while enjoying a scenery-filled drive up Parley’s Canyon. For many years, the towns in Heber Valley, such as Midway and Heber City, were sleepy agricultural areas. However, this area of Wasatch County has undergone incredible growth over the past 10 years, and is a place worth visiting to have a great night out for dinner. Here are some places not to be missed. The Spicy Lady Restaurant in Heber CityOwner Jai Wurfbain set up this restaurant on Main Street in Heber City a couple of years ago with the philosophy, “Travel the world from the comfort of your own plate.” Wurfbain, who has lived in or traveled to a wide variety of places all over the globe, has picked up recipes along the way from everyone from chefs in cooking schools to street cart vendors. The result is unique peasant and comfort foods, sometimes combined in imaginative ways. For example, the menu includes everything from a Tandoori Panini to a kangaroo brochette. 139 North Main Street Heber City, Utah 84032 435-654-4288 Fine Dining at Snake Creek GrillThe Snake Creek Grill has been a popular dining establishment in the Heber Valley for a number of years, and has received favorable reviews from everyone from Gourmet Magazine to Zagat to Sunset Magazine. It is now run by Executive Chef/Owner Dean Hottle, who trained at the Culinary Institute of America. His goal is to continue to deliver the “bold, unpretentious cuisine” the restaurant has become known for over the years. One of the favorites on the menu is organic lamb grown in Morgan Valley, Utah. For dessert, Snake Creek’s signature dish is “Black Bottom Banana Cream Pie,” a twist on the usual version of the dish, with an Oreo cookie crumb crust and a layer of chocolate, creamy gouache. Snake Creek Grill 650 West, 100 South Heber City, Utah 84032 435-654-2133 Zermatt Resort and SpaThe Zermatt Resort and Spa has been an exciting addition to Heber Valley as a luxury hotel and place to get excellent spa treatments, but also as a place to find good food. Breakfast pastries and made to order picnic lunches can be found at Zermatt’s Backerei & Eis, Utah’s “Best of State” medal winner. A full dining experience is also available at Zermatt in Schneitter’s restaurant, which offers a full dinner menu as well as family style favorites. On Sundays, Schneitter’s has a “Big City Brunch” that includes Alaskan king crab, prime rib and made-to-order omelets and blintzes. Whatever time of day one dines there, the Black Forest cake should not be missed. Zermatt Resort and Spa 784 W. Resort Drive Midway, Utah 84049 866-643-2015 Whether it’s international peasant food or a traditional lamb dish or a Black Forest cake that seems to take one right to the Swiss Alps, a wide variety of fine dining experiences can be found in the Heber Valley.
