Utah's Salt Lake City has a good range of accommodation, including cheap hotels and budget bed and breakfasts. In winter, hotels can book up quickly when the snow is good, with visitors going to and from the Utah ski resorts, and maybe spending a day or two in Salt Lake City itself. This means a wide choice of rooms outside the main ski season.
Book ahead for stays in winter, or in the fall to do Utah's fall foliage drives or Salt Lake City's fall foliage drives.

Less than five minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport (with a complimentary shuttle service), the Airport Inn is a budget 100-room hotel. It has its own restaurant, with bar, lounge, and nightclub, and downtown Salt Lake is only five minutes away by car or taxi. There are no less than seven of Utah's world-class ski resorts within 45 minutes of the hotel.

This historic Victorian bed and breakfast is located in a quiet neighborhood but is only five blocks from downtown. It has just six rooms, with one, Summer Hill, currently being only $119 per night for two people as it has a detached but still private bathroom. The airport is a 15-minute drive away, and some of Utah's main ski resorts are only 30-45 minutes away, making it possible to both ski and stay downtown.

A cheap room near the airport, at the Hilton? Yes, with almost 300 rooms and suites, there are some budget ones available, by either booking ahead or looking to pick up a last-minute deal. The airport Hilton is two miles from the terminal with a shuttle bus, and it's only a short drive or taxi ride to downtown Salt Lake City. Amenities include one restaurant, a gym, pool, and complimentary parking. There's also another Hilton downtown at 255 South West Temple (801-328-2000).

This huge 850-room downtown hotel is 10 minutes from the airport. There is no shuttle bus, so contact the hotel ahead of time for a transfer, or take a short taxi ride. There are some expensive and luxury rooms and suites, but there are also standard rooms whose rates are surprisingly cheap given the hotel's amenities. These include two swimming pools, a gym, and two restaurants looked after by Chef of the Year Bernhard Götz.
